It is Well

I love this song.. "it is well with my soul"..

What makes me love it all the more is knowing the story behind the one who wrote it.

The song was written by a man called Spafford after a great misfortune befell him. He lost his son to scarlet fever. And all his property by a fire accident. He thought of going for a vacation in England. Put his wife and four daughters on a ship but the ship sunk. All of his daughters died there.

His wife survived and sent him a telegram that read, 'Survived Alone'.

Is that not a living nightmare?

This song came to him as he was passing the same spot where he lost his four daughters.

And he wrote:

"When peace like a river attendeth my way.

When sorrow like see billows roll..

Thou has taught me to say it is well with my soul..."

I pray we all meditate on this song. That its possible to say its well even in the midst of loss, adversity, confusion, pain, anxiety, I choose to be well.
